Onboarding & Resume Import

The onboarding wizard is the fastest way to set up your profile. It walks you through six steps, and on the Resume step it can extract your experience, skills, and certifications from an uploaded resume so you only have to confirm them. You can revisit onboarding any time from /person/onboarding.

The six steps

The wizard moves through these steps in order. A progress indicator shows where you are, and you can move back to revise earlier steps.

  1. Identity β€” Display name, professional headline, city, country, and timezone.
  2. Availability β€” Availability status, hours per week, hourly rate range (min–max), and preferred work type.
  3. Resume β€” Upload a resume and confirm the extracted items (see below).
  4. Skills β€” Search for and add 3–10 skills, each with a proficiency level.
  5. Culture β€” Answer the CVF questionnaire and set your work preferences.
  6. Summary β€” Review your profile completeness, then go to your dashboard.

Step 1 β€” Identity

Goal: Establish who you are and where you're based.

  1. Enter your display name and a concise professional headline.
  2. Add your city, country, and timezone.
  3. Click Next.

Step 2 β€” Availability

Goal: Tell the network whether you're open to work and on what terms.

  1. Choose an availability status:
    • Available β€” Open to new projects right now.
    • Busy β€” Limited capacity, selective on projects.
    • Hidden β€” Not seeking work; still shown in search but heavily down-ranked.
  2. Set your hours per week and your hourly rate range (min–max).
  3. Pick your preferred work type: Remote, Hybrid, or On-site.

Step 3 β€” Import your resume

Goal: Auto-fill your experience, skills, certifications, and education in one step.

  1. On the Resume step, upload a PDF or Word (.docx) file.
  2. Illumera's AI parser reads the file and extracts Work Experience, Skills, Certifications, and Education.
  3. Review each extracted item and uncheck anything you don't want to keep.
  4. Click Apply to Profile to save the confirmed items.

tip

You don't have to import a resume β€” you can skip this step and add everything manually later on the Skills page. But importing is much faster.

If parsing fails

If the parser times out or can't read your file, your resume is still saved and you can add your details manually. You can also try uploading again.

Step 4 β€” Confirm your skills

Goal: Make sure your top skills are present and accurately leveled.

  1. Search the capability catalogue and add 3–10 skills.
  2. Set a proficiency level for each (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert during onboarding; the full Aware–Expert scale is available later on the Skills page).
  3. Click Next.

Step 5 β€” Culture & work preferences

Goal: Capture how you like to work so culture matching can rank you accurately.

  1. Answer the CVF questionnaire (all questions are required).
  2. Set your work preferences: work location, travel tolerance, clearance level, and schedule.
  3. Click Next.

See Availability & Work Environment for what each option means and how it affects matching.

Step 6 β€” Summary

Goal: See how complete your profile is and head to your dashboard.

  1. Review your profile completeness score and the checklist of remaining items.
  2. Click Go to Dashboard.
